- We are proud to announce that Marcie Compton, Aero-Metric Anchorage’s GIS Specialist, has successfully completed the Certified GIS/LIS Mapping Scientist requirements of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS). She is the first person in Alaska to gain this certification, and there are only 33 in the entire country at this time.
Some of the extensive requirements for this certification include: three years experience in mapping sciences or photogrammetry in a position of responsibility, three years of professional experience in the Geographic or Land Information Systems, and successful completion of a four hour written examination.
Compton is a project manager and lead technical specialist for Aero-Metric Anchorage. Her project work with the GIS and Remote Sensing Department includes project design for LIDAR data analyses, data conversion, spatial and tabular database design, and image analysis. Compton holds a MA in Geography from the University of Washington and has 13 years experience in GIS analysis and implementation. She has been a member of ASPRS since 1993 and a member of the Alaska Arc User Group since 1998. She has also been very active in the Alaska Surveying and Mapping Conference (ASMC). She has prepared and presented numerous papers on LIDAR, GIS, Cartography, and Remote Sensing at the ASMC and at ESRI and ASPRS Conferences. |
