Low Altitude Lidar Acquisition Assists in Trail Restoration

The purpose of this work was to provide a digital elevation model for 2-foot contour mapping for the development of the Eagle River Trail. During 2005, the Alaska State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) awarded this contract to Aero-Metric Anchorage, to provide Light Detection And Ranging (lidar) mapping over an area of approximately 2,100 acres of the Eagle River Trail for trail maintenance and restoration.

Aero-Metric acquired lidar data for this project. The lidar flight plan called for flying height of 1200 meters Above Ground Level (AGL) with an average lidar data posting density of 0.8 meters. The data set was processed at Aero-Metric's Anchorage facility to meet the deliverables and accuracy requirements for 1”=100’ mapping with 2-foot contours. The project was completed on time and was delivered to DNR in December of 2005.
