| NOAA Shoreline Mapping, Shishmaref & Kivalina, Alaska

Leading-Edge Technological Solutions
in a Hostile Environment

Aero-Metric Anchorage Division provided the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) with digital shoreline information for updating nautical charts, performing erosion studies and other uses for more than 800 square miles on the north shore of the Seward Peninsula. This world-class project would have taxed the largest and most-capable international firms, yet this work was successfully completed using only Alaskan resources.

NOAA Shoreline Mapping Project

The project included planning, differential airborne GPS/IMU-controlled color photography, lidar DEM, establishing and observing tide gage stations throughout the airborne acquisitions, ground control, aerotriangulation, and map compilation. The project required color aerial photography at 1:24,000 over the entire project area and at 1:12,000 for shoreline 10 miles on either side of the villages. Tide-coordinated lidar data with 2-meter post spacing covering the overall project and 1-meter post spacing at the two villages was also acquired. The project was completed in 2006.
