Land Base Mapping and
Arc/Info GIS Program

Quantico Public Works selected Air Survey for its large scale land base mapping and Arc/Info GIS program.  The structure of the CADD and ArcInfo GIS data dictionary was modeled after the Tri-Service GIS Spatial Data Standards (TSSDS).  In addition Air Survey field located/classified and attached attributes to five major utility systems on the base and surveyed approximately 600 water valves for inclusion into the water utility ArcInfo coverages.

The task elements were:

  1. Locate existing and plan new control monumentation and targeting
  2. Establish additional GPS control for mapping
  3. Aerial photography at 1"=500' and 1"=330' scales
  4. Aerotriangulation (both scales of photography)
  5. Field locate and classify utilities and collect attributes
  6. Convert utility attributes from existing hard copy maps
  7. Convert existing Naval Facility Assets Data Base attributes
  8. Develop an ArcInfo Data Dictionary based on TSSDS
  9. Produce ArcInfo coverages and populate with TSSDS attributes
  10. Produce 0.5 meter ArcTIN surface model from DTM
  11. Prepare 0.5 foot resolution orthophoto maps
Final map delivered at 1:500 with 0.5m contours in ArcInfo.
