Public-Private Partnership Benefits Second Fastest Growing County in the Nation AERO-METRIC's Dulles Division was selected by Dewberry to provide photogrammetric mapping and related services in support of the location, design and improvement of four interchanges along Route 28. Aerial photography was obtained at nominal scales of 1”=60’ and 1”=250’. Prior to the photographic mission, small targets were painted along the shoulders of Route 28 at interchange ramps and at bridge crossings.

We provided horizontal control for 94 targets using GPS methodology. Vertical control was established, to a relative accuracy of 0.01’, utilizing differential spirit leveling. This photography and control was used in a photogrammetric process to provide high accuracy elevations, on paved surfaces, at four interchanges along Route 28. The predicted accuracy of these elevations is ± 0.05’, with respect to the project vertical datum. Through the use of low altitude (helicopter platform) aerial photography, the exposure of field survey staff to vehicular traffic hazards was eliminated. Another significant advantage of this approach was the minimum disruption of traffic on this major thoroughfare.
