High Resolution Imagery

AERO-METRIC in Sheboygan, Wisconsin began a multi-year, 837-square mile digital photo-grammetric imaging and mapping program in 2004. This was the first U.S. project to simultaneously employ a Zeiss Digital Mapping Camera and an Optech 30/70 LiDAR sensor. Panchromatic, color, and near infrared image bands were captured during leaf-off, high sun angle, spring conditions. A second flight captured the LiDAR data. Airborne GPS ensured positional accuracy of both sensors while reducing the need for ground surveys.

The near-infrared imagery facilitates forest and soil classification. The imagery and LiDAR are being used to provide 0.5-foot pixel color digital orthophotos. The LiDAR data is also used to generate a countywide bare earth digital terrain model and 2-foot contour topographic mapping meeting FEMA Flood Hazard Mapping parameters.
