| COMPANY HISTORY

Founded in 1969, Aero-Metric is a leading provider of high-quality geospatial services to government and corporate clients. Geospatial services involve defining the earth's topographic shape, identifying and measuring its natural and man-made features and chronicling its condition using a variety of photogrammetric and image processing technologies.

Aero-Metric provides these services to clients in the form of planimetric mapping, topographic mapping, digital orthophoto imagery, digital elevation modeling, terrain mapping and other cartographic services. Aero-Metric’s clients rely on these geospatial information services for feasibility studies, natural resource evaluation, engineering design and construction, temporal change detection and assessment, mapping, environmental monitoring, and numerous related applications. Aero-Metric has developed a blue-chip client base that includes some of the top domestic engineering and manufacturing firms, as well as a wide variety of federal, state and local government agencies.

In 1970, Aero-Metric became the first mapping firm to routinely use color photography for photogrammetric mapping, which has subsequently become an industry standard. In 1977, Aero-Metric made the strategic decision to expand vertically up the geospatial services value chain into image and data acquisition by acquiring its first aircraft and camera system. Aero-Metric has since expanded its aircraft fleet and remote sensing capabilities in order to provide a full range of image and data acquisition capabilities and today offers some of the most sophisticated image acquisition capabilities available. In 1983, Aero-Metric entered the computer mapping age with the purchase of its first Intergraph digital mapping system. Aero-Metric continued to upgrade its technological capabilities throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s through the purchase of Zeiss “P” series analytical plotters and a variety of digital mapping workstations.

In 1981, Aero-Metric initiated the first of several horizontal targeted geographic expansions with the acquisition of Tri-State Aero in Bettendorf, Iowa. Tri-State operations were subsequently consolidated into Aero-Metric’s Wisconsin operations. Since 1981, Aero-Metric has made five additional acquisitions:

1982

Purchased Air Survey Corporation, Dulles, VA, which was founded in 1946.

1989

Acquired Walker and Associates, Seattle, WA, which was founded in 1953;
Walker-Alaska Aerial Survey, Anchorage, AK; and
MARKHURD, Minneapolis, MN, which was founded in 1922.

1993

Acquired AeroMap U.S., Anchorage, AK, which was founded in 1960.

All acquired companies were re-branded as “Aero-Metric” in 2006.

Aero-Metric has made significant historical investments in its infrastructure, including:

  • Its fleet of eight aircraft which are fitted with sophisticated image acquisition equipment, including LIDAR, DMC and traditional film cameras.
  • Sophisticated photogrammetric equipment including softcopy workstations and analytical stereoplotters.
  • Six full-service geospatial service office locations strategically located throughout the U.S and one full service survey office in Wisconsin.

Aero-Metric continues to invest in technology, capabilities and talent and is widely regarded as the leading geospatial service provider in the United States.
