Cedar Hills Regional Landfill, Washington

Landfill sites need to be regularly monitored in order to allow operators to maintain the site, track volumes, determine the most efficient maintenance of solid waste on the property, and plan for future operations. Operators need to capture reliable data to support these activities in the most cost effective way.

AeroMetric’s solution was to provide aerial imagery and photogrammetric data to meet the needs of each landfill client. AeroMetric has mapped numerous public and private sector landfills in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Virginia, Washington, and in Canada. We provide cost-effective photogrammetric mapping to assist landfill owners monitor compliance with airspace easements, and track changing contours and landfill volumes. We routinely prepare volume calculations, cross-sections, topographic mapping, orthophotography, oblique images and photographic enlargements for our landfill clients. Many sites are imaged and mapped on a semi-annual or annual basis to help our clients monitor their operations.

In the case of the Cedar Hills landfill project, located south of Seattle, we worked closely with our client, King County's Solid Waste Division, to determine the best way to serve their needs. The site required regular monitoring in order to allow the County to track landfill volumes and efficiently manage their operations. AeroMetric flew over the site every six months, during a three year contract, and mapped the changes to the landfill profile.
