U.S. Army Corps of Engineers: St. Louis District
AeroMetric has a 20 year history providing digital mapping and related professional services to St. Louis District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) in support of planning studies, design, and inventories for various projects throughout their jurisdiction. The services provided include: Digital Camera Imagery, Lidar, Color Aerial Photography, Black and White Aerial Photography, Photography Line Indexing, GPS – Ground and GPS – Airborne Survey, Analytical Aerotriangulation, Digital Orthophotos, Digital Mapping (in Intergraph, AutoCADD, ARC/INFO formats), DTM Collection and Contour Development, and GIS generation and application development. Listed below are representative examples of the projects completed.
Will County, Illinois: As part of a multi-year, county-wide digital topographic mapping and color digital orthophoto imaging project, AeroMetric provided lidar and Digital Image data acquisition and subsequent data development to support floodplain mapping initiatives for this 837-square mile mapping project. This project is unique as it is the first project in the U. S. to fully employ the Digital Mapping Camera (DMC) for image capture, and Light Detecting and Ranging (lidar) technologies to develop digital terrain models suitable for contour generation meeting FEMA floodplain mapping accuracies specification.
The program involved the development of limited planimetric mapping, development of digital terrain models through lidar technologies, and generation of two-foot contour intervals. The "limited planimetric" detail was created to define physical and man-made structures which would impede the flow of water. Stringent contract specifications, with internal quality control accuracies, were developed to ensure the mapping accuracy met the FEMA Guidelines and Specifications for Flood Hazard Mapping partners.
The project specifications were developed through a unique program administered by the St. Louis Corps of Engineers. Identical programs were implemented in DuPage County, Illinois and Dodge County, Wisconsin. USACE provided rigid quality control and quality assurance checks to ensure all products delivered to each county met the accuracy standards imposed within the contract specifications.
Trempealeau County and City of Osseo, Wisconsin: In the April of 2006, AeroMetric acquired multi-band DMC imagery of Trempealeau County and the City of Osseo, WI. For this project, DMC imagery was flown at two separate altitudes and post processed to generate 1.0 foot pixel resolution orthophotos covering all of Trempealeau County and higher resolution, 0.5 foot imagery covering the City of Osseo.
