Wisconsin Public Service: Guardian Gas Pipeline Mapping
In 2007, Wisconsin Public Service needed to map a 57 mile corridor in northeast Wisconsin in which a gas pipeline and associated laterals were to be installed. This project needed to be completed on a tight time frame and during late fall, a period with less than optimal lighting conditions for aerial imagery acquisition.
AeroMetric utilized its Z/I Imaging Digital Mapping Camera (DMC) to acquire high resolution digital imagery with excellent contrast even during this low sun angle period. Our Optech Gemini Light Detection and Ranging (lidar) sensor was used during after sundown to provide a dense elevation point cloud to support a one foot contour terrain surface representation. The combination of these two technologies allowed the imagery to be acquired in the short time frame required.
Using the combination of DMC and Lidar imagery, AeroMetric delivered digital terrain models, 1-foot contour-topographic maps, and high resolution 6" pixel digital orthophotos. The digital survey data was used by EN Engineering of Woodridge, IL, to design the installation of the mainline and underground lateral conduit system.
