Obstruction Surveys
AeroMetric has served international airports, county airports, small municipal fields and military bases in the USA and overseas. Every airport mapping project is custom tailored.
Our obstruction mapping work is fully compliant with FAA specifications, and can be combined with other services to generate high-value deliverables that can aid in navigation, expansion planning, infrastructure management, and Enterprise GIS development.
Obstruction Mapping Process
AeroMetric applies a consistent methodology to locating and charting tree tops, poles, towers, antennas, buildings and other structures that may pose an obstruction hazard to aircraft. A typical obstruction mapping project commences with new color aerial photography. Ground surveyors are utilized to provide the required control points to tie the imagery to the earth's surface. Looking at the imagery in stereo pairs, AeroMetric can define the objects that penetrate the conical surfaces as defined by the FAA and NGS. The final obstruction map includes a three-dimensional imaginary cone, within which aircraft may safely approach and depart from the airport. In addition to obstructions, the imagery can be utilized to identify and map defined airport planimetric features.
