Windfarm Mapping
Solutions
Wind farm developers use our services to cost effectively support planning and preliminary design of access roads, turbine sites, and transmission corridors leading to the power grid. Our solutions typically consist of acquiring color aerial photography, preparing digital orthophotography, and producing topographic maps.
When a wind farm is constructed on a ridge, the surrounding terrain is often heavily vegetated or even forested. In these cases, the solution is to use LiDAR to penetrate the foliage and capture elevation data for the topographic maps.
Additional Solutions
Property Development Phase—Digital orthophotography can be useful to support a permit application, especially when environmental issues need to be addressed before a permit will be issued. In addition, we can assist the property Title transfer process with larger scale mapping to support ALTA surveys.
Design Phase—Engineering design demands larger scale, more detailed topographic maps. These maps and orthophoto solutions facilitate the design of access roads, including those used for turbine and crane transportation during construction.
Transmission Corridors—As sites located close to an existing power grid become scarcer, wind farm development will require corridors of greater length for future transmission lines. In addition to small scale route mapping, our large scale topographic maps and orthophoto products help engineers with transmission tower and sub-station siting and design.
